ATV ACCIDENTS

ATVs, also known as all-terrain vehicles, were initially introduced to the American consumer in the 1970s. Due to the fun of riding and the power of all-terrain vehicles, ATVs became very popular. However, along with this popularity came a host of problems including severe accidents resulting in paralysis and death of the driver.

ATVs can be dangerous because of their design. There are no roll bars or framing to protect the rider in an accident. In addition, the ATVs are stopped by using brakes, which have been proven in trials to lack sufficient power to fully stop the ATV.  This can cause the ATV to flip over. Additionally, ATVs have engines that are huge for the size of the vehicle. This allows the rider to travel in excess of 70 miles per hour, which can cause catastrophic accidents and death. The Consumer Protection Safety Commission reports that upwards of 700 deaths occur every year due to the above referenced problems.

ATV manufacturers have attempted to make their dangerous products safer. However, despite the improvements, injuries and deaths continue to rise every year due to the increasing popularity of ATV riding.
